Mansfield Reformatory

The town that served as the backdrop for “The Shawshank Redemption” will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its filming this Labor Day weekend. Mansfield, Ohio, and its iconic Ohio State Reformatory, hosted Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, who starred in the 1994 film as convicted murderers.

The reunion festivities include events and tours taking place in Mansfield, Ashland and Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Several actors from the film are coming, including Bob Gunton, who played the prison warden.

Mansfield’s Renaissance Theatre plans to re-stage the film’s 1994 premiere with a screening at 7 p.m. on August 30.

The Mansfield and Richland County Visitors Bureau has more details, including a schedule and information about tours and overnight accommodations.
